1.grimace  vi．扭曲脸部（以表示痛苦等）；扮鬼脸
【例】Isabel looked at her father with a grimace.
伊莎贝尔扮着鬼脸看着她父亲。
【用】grimace指痛苦、厌恶地做怪相，后接at，表示“向…做怪相”。

2.quote  v．引用…的话，引证；报…的价；把…放入括号力，引文；报价
【记】词根记忆：quot(有多少)+e--引证
【例】The speaker quoted many wisdoms of Nietzsche's.
讲演者在演讲中引用了很多尼采的名言。
The insurance company requires the quotes for repairing the car.
保险公司要一份修理这辆汽车的报价单。
【派】quotation(n．引语，引用；报价)
【辨】quote，cite这两个词都有“引用”的意思。quote表示照原文引用，不作任何改动；cite则强调“引用…来证明某事”，对原文可以作适当改动。

3.blot  n．污渍；瑕疵,（名誉等上的）污点v.弄上污渍；（用吸墨水纸等）吸干；玷辱
【例】My shirt was blotted by some juice.
戒的衬衣被果汁弄脏了。

4.deteriorate  v．恶化，（使）变坏，退化
【记】词根记忆：deterior(拉丁文：糟糕的)+ate--变糟糕--变坏
【例】Advancing age does not make his health deteriorate.
年龄的增长并没使他的健康状况恶化。

5.transport   vt．运输，输送：放逐，流放 n．运输；运输工具
【记】词根记忆：trans(转移)+port(运)--搬运转移--运输
【例】This type of vessels was used to transport pirated goods.
这种船过去被用来运输走私货物。

7.rigid  adj.僵硬的，坚挺的；严厉的，刻板的
【例】The rigid boss was staring at his employees without any expression.
严厉的老板面无表情地盯着雇员。

8.proficient  adj.熟练的，精通的
【记】联想记忆：pro(代替)+fic(做)+ient--替别人做了很多所以熟练--熟练的
【例】These workers are proficient at operating computer terminal.
这些工人善于操作计算机终端设备。
