1.violate  vt.违犯，违反；侵犯，妨碍
【例】The US announces new measures to enforce Cuba trade sanctions and punish those who violate them.
美国对古巴宣布了新的贸易制裁，并将严惩触犯者。
A survey shows that the legal rights of employees were frequently violated in more than 80 per cent of private companies, especially in real estate, light industry, clothing and catering.

2.illuminate   v．照明，照射；用灯装饰；阐明，启发

3.fatuous  adj.愚蠢的；荒谬的；愚昧的
【记】词根记忆：fatu(笨)+ous--愚蠢的
【例】l may be the most fatuous person, but I am one of the most loyal men.

4.primary  adj.主要的，首要的；最初的，基本的
【记】词根记忆：prim(第一，主要的)+ary(…的)--主要的
【例】Safety is a matter of primary importance in the production.
安全在生产中是头等重要的事情。
【用】primary school表示“小学”。

5.stress   n.压力，紧迫；重要，强调；重音,重读 vt．强调，着重;用重音读
【例】We realized that he was under great stress, so we took no notice of his bad temper.
我们意识到他正承受着巨大压力，所以没有在意他的坏脾气。( 2005)
They stressed more work must be done to settle their differences in military and political issues.

【辨】stress, pressure二者都有“压力”的意思。stress是可使物体变形的力，多指精神或肉体上的痛苦带来的压力与忧虑；pressure尤指由液体产生的压力，引申为某事物产生的影响力和压力。

6.drench  vt．使湿透，浸湿
【例】I drenched myself with rain and ran home.
我冒雨往家跑，浑身都湿透了。

7.discern  v．看出，了解，识别
【记】词根记忆：dis(分开)+cern(区别)--区别开来--识别
【例】“Sharp”meant genuinely discerning，alert, acute rather than quick-witted or clever.
“sharp”的意思是真正有辨识力的、警觉的，比机敏和聪明还要更加敏锐。(2000) 
Fran’s eyes strained to discern every suspect.
弗兰眯缝着眼睛辨认着每一个嫌疑犯。
【辨】discern, discriminate, differentiate这三个词都有“区别，辨别”的意思，discern强调细致或准确地观察；discriminate表示将类似事物之间的差别区分开来，如：He can discriminate among the options available; differentiate表示通过仔细比较事物之间的特点察觉出事物间的特殊差别，如：differentiate one thing from another。

8.beloved  adj.为…所爱的；被热爱的，敬爱的 n．心爱的人
【记】来自love(v．爱)
【例】He grieved for his beloved Sophia.
他替自己心爱的索菲娅难过。
