1.glance  v．一瞥，扫视；闪光，闪耀 n．一瞥，眼光
【例】I glanced the newspaper during the breakfast.
我吃早餐时匆匆浏览了一下报纸。
Lucy caught a glance of her room and then left.
露西瞥了一眼她的房间，便离开了。
【用】glance后可接at，of, over，to，into等介词，都表示“对…匆匆一瞥”。
【辨】glance, glimpse, glare，glance强调“随便地、匆匆地一看”的动作；glimpse则指无意间瞥到，强调结果，有时可与glance互换；glare尤指怒视。

2.disagree   vi．不一致，不符；（食物、天气等）不适宜：意见不合，有分歧：争吵，争论
【例】Some people disagree with Dr. Burton because they still feel sleepy with enough sleep.
一些入不同意伯顿博士的观点，因为他们觉得即使睡足了依然会犯困。(1999)
【用】disagree后面通常接with或者in，前者表示“不同意…，与…不一致”，后者表示“在…方面不一致”。
【派】disagreeable（adj.令人不快的；不合意的；不友善的）；disagreement（n．意见不一；争论；不一致；不适宜）

3.deter  vt．威慑住，吓住；阻止，防止
【记】词根记忆：de+ter(=terr，恐吓)--吓住
【例】The witness was deterred by the rage in the suspect's face.
证人被嫌疑犯脸上的怒火吓住了。
【用】deter与from搭配，表示“阻止做…”。

4.fund   n．[pl.]资金，公债；基金，专款，储备 v．为…提供资金，资助，积累
【记】本身为词根“基础”
【例】By canceling the debts owed to her, Britain intends to review a similar scheme proposed by the International Monetary Fund.
在取消了应得的债款后，英国有意重新考虑国际货币基金组织提出的一个相似计划。（1997听力）

5.subsequent  adj.后来的，随后的，继起的
【记】词根记忆：sub（接近）+sequ（跟随）+ent--紧跟在后的--随后的
【例】Supermarkets caught selling alcohol to teenagers will have a subsequent undercover test.
被发现向未成年人出售酒水的超市随后将接受暗中审查。
【辨】subsequent, successive两个词都有“随后的”之意。subsequent指“随后的，跟着发生的”；successive强调“继承的，连续的”，如：on four successive days。

6.magnify  v．放大，扩大；夸大  
【记】词根记忆：magn(大)+ify(使)--放大，扩大
【例】The critic magnified the ponderance of the foam economy.
那位评论家夸大了泡沫经济的严重性。

7.concem  v．涉及，影响；使关心，使挂念，使担心 n.（利害）关系．所关切的事；关心，挂念；商行，企业
【记】词根记忆：con(共同)+cern(搞清)--都想搞清楚--关心
【例】Our concern is with movement between nations, not with internal migration within nations.
戒们所关心的是国与国之间的迁移，而非国内的。( 1999)
He once worked in an insurance concern.
他曾在一家保险公司工作过。
as far as... be concerned As far as manners are concerned, I suppose I have always been a supporter of women's liberation.
