High-rise Buildings in Big Cities

Modernization and urbaniza tion bring both benefits and problems . In order to solve the problem of housing , high- rise building s have been and a re being put up in ever gr eat er numbers in mor e and more big cities .

High- rise building s have their advantages and disadvantages , of course . In urban areas wher e land is expensive , they take up less space . Some people say that high- rise buildings can give a city striking beauty . Some buildings are apa rt - ments , which can hou se hundreds of families under one roof . On the othe r hand , high-rise buildings may be dange rous . What if there is a fir e or an ear thquake ? What if power and water ar e in s hor t s upply ? In addition , high- rise buildings/ blocks may not be s uitable for childr en and old people .

To conclude , it goes without saying that high- rise building s a re necessa ry , but their number should be limit ed . At the same time, effective measures must be taken to solve such problems as the supply of water and power .
