【辨】acqulre,gain,obtain
这三个词都有“获得,占有,得到”的意思。acquire强调逐渐地、积少成多地去获得,对象是指最终得到的成果,如:Jane hasacquired a working knowledge of English.;gain指通过极大的努力或奋斗而获得,如:No gzuns without pains.;obtain是比较正式的用语,强调在得刭某物或达到目的时的计划性,如:He obtained the driving license.

三个词都有“允许”的意思。pennit比较正式,表主动地同意、许可,句型一般为permit sb. to do sth.,如:1 won't permit pets in the house.;allow有时可以与permit通用,但它相对比较消极,表不反对、不阻止;let最为口语化,有时含“难以阻止”的意思,如:Let him go.

【例】When vou are in a survival situation and realize that shelter is a high priority,start looking for shelter as soon as possible.
