1.inferior adj.（质量等）较劣的，次等的；（地位等）下级的，低等的，低于…的
【记】词根记忆：in(不)+fer(带来)+ior--什么都带不来的--次等的
【例】Working-class people may sometimes feel rnferior tomiddle-class people.
工人阶级有时会感觉比中产阶级低一等。(2006)

2.resent vt.怨恨，憎恶
【记】词根记忆：re(反对)+sent(感觉)一反感--憎恶
【例】Many UK women resent the fact that their husband or partner does not eam as much as them，a survey suggests.
一项调查显示，许多英国妇女讨厌丈夫或是伴侣的收入不如自己。
【派】resentful（adj.感到或表示愤恨的，憎恨韵）；resentment（n.愤恨，怨恨）

3.brunt n.冲击，冲势;压力
【例】bear the brunt of sth.I had to bear the brunt of her screanung and yelling.
我不得不忍受她的大喊大叫。
【用】bear the brunt of sth.单独来讲是“首当其冲”的意思，但用在句中则成了“承受，忍受”的意思，一般指被迫或不情愿。

4.trifle n.小事，琐碎之物；少量的钱；稍微，有点址轻视或随便对待某人
【记】联想记忆：tri(三)+fle--分成三份后变琐碎--琐碎之物
【例】Why do you always argue with your neighbours about rnlfle matrers?
你为什么总是为一些琐事和邻居们争吵？
How dare you trifle with me, he might have said; and worse, why should I care?
“你怎么敢瞧不起我？”他可能会这么说；或者更糟糕的是他会说：“我为什么要在乎？”
【用】trifle作动词时常与with连用，表示“轻视或随便对待…”。

5.serene adj.安详的，平静的，宁谧的
【例】Many people living in the city wanted to live a serene life in ffie countryside.
很多居住在城市中的人想去乡下过宁静的生活。

6.brag n./v.夸张，吹牛
【例】Marty bragged that he had killed 2 bears.
马蒂吹嘘说他杀死了两只熊？
【辨】brag, boast
两词都有“夸耀”的意思，brag比boast语气更强，常指因为自己优越的能力、地位、成就等而夸口和吹嘘；boast比较常见，指对事情过分夸耀，如：He boasted too much of his actuevements.

7.disarm v．缴…的械，解除…的武装，裁减军备;消除…的疑虑
【记】联想记忆：dis(除去)+踟（武器）--去掉武器一裁减军备
【例】Somali warlords who have fought for 16 years agree todisamr after a battle．which leaves five dead.
经过一场造成5人死亡的激战后，战斗了16年的索马里军阀同意解除武装。
【派】disarmament(n.裁军，裁减军备)

8.invade v．侵入，侵占;侵害，侵犯（权利等）；侵袭：涌入
【记】词根记忆：in+vad(走)+e--直接走进去--侵入
【例】All the forces are armed to invade.
所有军队都全副武装准备发动侵略进攻。
