1.accustom  vt．使习惯
【记】联想记忆：ac(表加强)+custom(风俗，习惯)--使成为习惯--使习惯
【例】You cannot accustom yourself to buy whatever you want.
你不能让自己养成想买什幺就买什么的习惯。
【用】accustom最常用的短语就是accustom oneself/sb. to，表示“使自己/某人习惯于…；使自己，某人养成某种习惯”。

2.general  adj.一般的，普遍的，综合的；总的，全面的；大体的，笼统的，n．将军
【记】词根记忆：gener(产生)+al--产生一切的--普遍的
【例】The special children's hospitals in major cities do best; general hospitals in the country and holiday areas are worst off.
大城市的特殊儿童医院做得最好，乡村和度假地的综合医院情况最糟糕。(1999)
Your plan is too general to carry out.
你的计划太笼统，无法执行。
in general in general，and especially for the students or new wage earners, there are practical limitations of cash and location on achieving that idea.

【派】generally( adv.一般地，通常地；广泛地，普遍地)
【辨】general, normal, usual
三个词都有“一般的，普通的”之意，但侧重点不同。general强调整体；normal强调与常规没有出入的、正常的；usual强调符合习惯的、平常的。

3.soluble   adj.可溶的；可解决的，可解答的
【记】词根记忆：solu(松开)+ble--可在水中松开的--可溶的
【例】it's thought that water-soluble vitamins are harmless.
大家认为可溶于水的维生素是无害的。
The problem is not soluble in a radical way.
用激进的方法无法解决这个问题。

4.delscribe  vt．叙述，描写，形容；描绘，画
【记】词根记忆：de+scrib(写)+e--描写
【例】About 100 people are now known have died in what has been described as the worst storms ever to hit the eastern U.S. this century.

【用】describe sth./sb. as表示“将…描绘成…”。
【派】description(n．叙述，描绘；种类，性质)；descriptive( adj.叙述的．描述性的)

5.overthrow   n./vt.推倒，颠覆
【记】来自词组throw over【摒弃】
【例】The terrorists plan to overthrow the government of the country.
 那些恐怖分子密谋推翻该国政府。

Miracles sometimes occur, but one has to work terribly for them.
